Louis Pochardt

MARSHALL — Services for Louis Pochardt, 77, of Lynd, are set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Island Lake Township. Burial will follow in the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery Island Lake Township, Minnesota. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. A prayer service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

Louis died peacefully surrounded by family Friday, March 8, 2019, at Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall.

Louis Emil Pochardt, Jr., was born to Louis, Sr., and Grace (Pearcy) Pochardt on June 29, 1941, in Tyler. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Island Lake Township, Lyon County. Louis attended school in Lynd through the 11th grade before going to help his parents on the family farm.

On Nov. 2, 1963, Louis was united in marriage to Kathryn Galbraith at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tyler. The couple shared over 55 years of marriage together. They made their home in rural Lynd while Louis spent 31 years working maintenance for the Minnesota Department of Transportation. As a teenager, Louis began to earn his nickname, “Well-man,” by assisting with well drilling, repairs, and sealing which continued as a side job for 60 years.

Louis was a jovial guy and was willing to talk to anyone. He enjoyed attending local raffles, camping, and fishing. He collected antique tractors and toy tractors. He was a life-long member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church plus a member of the Buffalo Ridge Two-Cylinder Club and the Arco Sportsman Club.

Louis is survived by his wife, Kathy Pochardt of Lynd; four children: Barb (Paul) Marron of Marshall, Karen (Mark) Dahl of Cottonwood, Mike (Emily) Pochardt of Lynd and Deb Pochardt of Marshall; eight grandchildren: Nicole (Mike) Donner, Amy (Mike) Warren, Ryan (Sylvia) Rathman, Derek Mariner, Dylan Mariner, Belinda, Dean and Laura Pochardt; four step grandchildren: David (Christina) Dahl, Joshua (Angela) Dahl, Katie (Tim) Wendler and Matt (Carly) Dahl; five great-grandchildren: Avery Donner, Jax, Zoe and Emma Rathman and Jayce Mariner; 11 step great-grandchildren: Bridgette, Parker, Steven, Cody, Dalton (Kirsten), Kortnee (Kyle), Austin, Renee, Archer, Griffin and Parker; one step great-great-grandchild, Huntleigh; brothers Terry Pochardt of Lynd, Bruce (Crystal) Pochardt of Lynd; pet dachshund, Ginger, many other relatives and numerous friends.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Grace Pochardt.
