Edward Van Nevel

MARSHALL — Mass of Christian Burial for Edward Van Nevel, 100, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Rehkamp Horvath Funeral Home, with a CCW rosary at 4 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue 10-11 a.m. on Saturday at Rehkamp Horvath Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Edward passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018, at Heritage Pointe Senior Living of Marshall.

Edward Paul Van Nevel was born Sept. 15, 1918, in Marshall to Paul and Maria (Slock) Van Nevel. He grew up on several farms in Lyon County before settling on a farm near Lynd. He was united in marriage to Beatrice Bot of Ghent, on June 23, 1941. He enjoyed farming, gardening, playing cards and spending time with family especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a generous caregiver. Ed’s strong religious beliefs were evident in his church volunteering and his counseling of parents who had lost children. He believed his faith got him through life, good times and bad. He was very involved in the community, including serving as a Lynd School Board member for 19 years. Ed will be remembered for his sense of humor, cheerful personality, and his joy in sharing stories with visitors.

He is survived by his daughter Alicia (and Douglas) Nolte of Manchester, Mo., and their son Erik; son Roger (and Pat) of Cold Spring and their children, Jesse, Jamie, Suzanne, and Michael; son Donald (and Diane) of El Mirage, Ariz., and their children Trevor and Tyler; daughter Mary (and Carroll) Stanton of Lynd and their children Carrie, Meghan, and Troy; son Kevin (and Marlys) of Sauk Rapids and their children Chris and Stephanie; daughter Ellen (and Tim) Bourgeault of Roseville and their daughter Allison; son Dean (and Janet) of Roseville and their children Amanda and Christina; and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Beatrice and son Lawrence, as well as his parents and siblings.
