Daniel Matthys

Mass of Christian Burial for Daniel Joseph Matthys, 54, of Marshall will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today, with a CCW rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rehkamp Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Burial will follow the service at St. Clotilde Catholic Cemetery in Green Valley.

Daniel died Thursday, June 28, 2018, as the result of a motorcycle accident near Cottonwood.

Daniel Joseph Matthys was born Jan. 2, 1964, in Tracy, to Duane and Frances (Otto) Matthys. He was baptized and received all of his sacraments at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Daniel grew up on the multi-generation family farm where he lived and farmed his entire life. He attended grade school at Holy Redeemer School and graduated from Marshall High School in 1982. Daniel then attended the Vocational Technical School in Canby for agriculture. After school, he returned to work with his father on the family farm. Daniel and his father also enjoyed playing Rolle Bolle together. He enjoyed tending to the livestock and working the land. He also enjoyed his equipment and was partial to John Deere and McCormick. Daniel enjoyed following stock car racing, especially with Ruth and Kolton. He, Ruth and Kolton also enjoyed traveling. Daniel and Ruth frequently attended the Wabasso roll in. Daniel was an active member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Third Degree.

He is survived by his son, Kolton, of Marshall; mother, Frances of Marshall; fiancé, Ruth Seifert of Marshall; siblings, Diane (and Greg) Louwagie of Marshall, Donna (and Mark) Horsman of Watertown, S.D., Doreen (and Danny) Owens of Henderson, NV; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Duane.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Holy Redeemer School.
