Juvenile driver taken into custody after high-speed chase in YMC

GRANITE FALLS — A juvenile was taken into custody after a high-speed chase in Yellow Medicine County Tuesday night, the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office said. The chase ended with no injuries, after the driver left his vehicle and fled on foot, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Law enforcement received a call around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, reporting a possible fight in Hazel Run. While deputies were on their way to respond, the 911 caller told dispatchers that the two people involved in the fight got into a grey Toyota 4-Runner and left heading west out of Hazel Run. Deputes located and tried to stop the vehicle, but it took off at a high speed, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The pursuit lasted about 23 minutes. In Granite Falls, the vehicle’s driver fled on foot, and was found a short time later, the Sheriff’s Office said. The driver was a juvenile, and was taken to Prairie Lakes Youth Programs in Willmar. The passenger in the vehicle was interviewed and later released, the Sheriff’s Office said.

An investigation relating to the original 911 call about the fight is ongoing, the Sheriffs’ Office said.

Granite Falls Police, the Minnesota State Patrol, the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, Montevideo Police, the Lac Qui Parle County Sheriff’s Office, the Renville County Sheriff’s Office and the Upper Sioux Community Police all assisted in the incident.
