Courts for April 20

MARSHALL – Krystal Anne Marie Martin, 29, of Marshall, pleaded not guilty in Lyon County District Court April 14 to charges of first degree controlled substance crime – liability for crimes of another, second degree controlled substance crime – liability for crimes of another, child endangerment – liability for crimes of another, possession of a small amount of marijuana – liability for crimes of another, possession of drug paraphernalia – liability for crimes of another, and two counts of methamphetamine related crime – liability for crimes of another. A complaint alleges Martin or an accomplice possessed methamphetamine in a home where children were present in Marshall on Nov. 21. A pretrial hearing was set for June 9. A trial date was set for June 18, with a date certain of Oct. 21.

MARSHALL – Michael Lee Rolfes, 35, of Iona, appeared in Lyon County District Court April 14 on charges of theft. A complaint alleges Rolfes stole more than $500 in merchandise from a Marshall business on Oct. 3. The court found probable cause for the charges, and a hearing was set for April 28.

MARSHALL – Nicholas John Sampson, 25, of Marshall, pleaded not guilty in Lyon County District Court April 14 to charges of theft and receiving stolen property. A complaint alleges Sampson acted as a lookout for a theft at a Marshall business on Oct. 3. A pretrial hearing was set for May 12. A trial date was set for May 20.

MARSHALL – Micah Lee Ward, 20, of Minneapolis, pleaded guilty in Lyon County District Court April 14 to charges of domestic assault by strangulation and giving a false name and date of birth to a peace officer, court records said. A complaint alleges Ward assaulted a woman in Marshall on Jan 22. Ward pleaded guilty to the two charges by way of an Alford plea, court records said. In an Alford plea, a defendant maintains that he is innocent of the charges against him, but acknowledges that there would be enough evidence for a jury to find him guilty. A sentencing hearing was set for May 26.

MARSHALL – Demarious Marquis Lewis, 22, of Granite Falls, appeared in Lyon County District Court April 14 on charges of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, fleeing a peace officer and having no Minnesota driver’s license. A complaint alleges Lewis fled a traffic stop in Marshall on March 31. A hearing was set for April 28.
