The Marshall Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire around 6 p.m. Sunday behind the Market Street Mall. Marshall Assistant Fire Chief Tim DeSaer said that the State Patrol initially spotted the smoking Jeep on the highway and followed it into town, where the Jeep cut through the parking lot to get home and was then pulled over before the vehicle caught fire. No one was injured in the blaze, and the fire was contained to the back end of the Jeep. DeSaer said that he suspects the vehicle overheated, and that the cause was a mechanical failure. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Department, Marshall Police and North Memorial Ambulance assisted at the scene.
