Authorities pursue theft suspects for 26 miles from Marshall to Clarkfield

MARSHALL – Two people were arrested early Saturday in connection with theft from a Marshall business after a 26-mile car chase, Marshall Police said.

A news release from the Marshall Police Department said the pursuit began about 12:25 a.m. Saturday, after the theft of a high dollar amount of merchandise was reported from a Marshall business on the 1200 block of East Main Street.

Law enforcement pursued the suspects and apprehended a 24-year-old Willmar man and a 42-year-old homeless woman in Clarkfield, the release said. The suspects were arrested for fleeing police in a motor vehicle, burglary, felony theft and obstruction of legal process, Police said.

Sgt. James Marshall of the Marshall Police Department said there were no injuries reported from the pursuit. The suspects’ vehicle tires were damaged from driving over spike strips, Marshall said.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Department, the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office, and the Minnesota State Patrol all assisted in the pursuit.
