Man killed crossing Morrison County highway

LITTLE FALLS (AP) — The Minnesota State Patrol said a man walking across a highway in Morrison County has been struck and killed.

The patrol said 59-year-old Keith Larson was hit by a pickup truck on Highway 10 near Little Falls Sunday shortly before 6 p.m. He was taken to St. Cloud Hospital where he later died.

Two men in the pickup were not hurt. Both were wearing seatbelts.

3 young girls burned in Rushford house fire remain critical

RUSHFORD (AP) — Three young girls remain hospitalized in critical condition following a fire at their home in Rushford last month.

The girls, their parents and a foster son were burned in the fire early on Oct. 31. KTTC-TV reports Regions Hospital in St. Paul says the father, Jared Cords, is out of the burn unit. His wife, Erin Cords, who is pregnant, and a 15-year-old foster son have been released from the hospital.

Seven-year-old Ravyn, 5-year-old Teagan and 3-year-old Peyton remain critical. A GoFundMe page for the family said the father went into the house numerous times to save his wife and children before the house collapsed.

American Crystal ends Red River Valley sugar beet harvest

MOORHEAD (AP) — American Crystal Sugar has already ended its fall sugar beet harvest in the Red River Valley.

KFGO-AM reported the Moorhead-based cooperative ended its harvest on Saturday.

American Crystal has not released the number of acres that were not harvested. The co-op has five processing plants in the Red River Valley.

Melting water from an early snow last month has aggravated flooding from heavy rains in September and October, leaving many sugar beets frozen into place.

Man found fatally shot in vehicle on St. Paul’s North End

ST. PAUL (AP) — A man fatally shot in St. Paul’s North End neighborhood is the city’s 30th homicide of the year.

Police were called to the neighborhood about 5 p.m. Sunday and found the man with a gunshot wound inside a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Minnesota Public Radio News reported most of the homicides in St. Paul in 2019 have involved firearms. The number of shooting deaths in the city and the frequency at which guns, have been used to kill are the highest in more than two decades.
