United Way of Southwest Minnesota to offer board governance training session

Board and staff working together can either be exciting or frustrating and challenging, according to a news release from the United Way of Southwest Minnesota. The secret is to provide board governance training for your board and staff. The best way to ensure having a productive, meaningful board that can guide your organization into the future is to invest in them with training on how a good board should work. This training can contribute to making this a rewarding experience for your nonprofit and its mission.

The session will be from 8:30-11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the AmericInn in Marshall. Registration is open now at www.UnitedWaySWMN.org. The session is just $25 per person. Registration is limited to two people from each organization and space is limited.

Training will be presented by Doris Pagelkopf, executive director of the United Ways of Minnesota State Association. Pagelkopf has served on numerous local, national and international boards and has conducted governance training across the United States and on five continents.

Training will include:

• How to have solid and invigorating board meetings members won’t miss

• How to build meeting agendas that are productive and strategic

• How to build strong partnerships between staff and board

• How to find great board members

• How to handle conflict when it arises

• How and when to create/update your strategic plan

• Board fiduciary responsibilities

• Roles and responsibilities of board members

• Roles and responsibilities of staff

• Committees your organization should have and how they should be used
