Lincoln Co. to purchase new rescue equipment

The Lincoln County Board voted to approve a request by Sheriff Chad Meester to approve a bid for a 2004 boat and trailer declared as surplus and auctioned on Minnbid.

The winning bid of $9,545 was much more than hoped for, according to Meester. The proceeds of the sale minus an auction fee of $750 will be used to buy water rescue equipment.

The board also approved bids for three vehicles acquired as a result of forfeiture for DUI and drug cases. A 2011 F350 was auctioned on Minbid for $22,700, a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox SUV for $3,635, and a 2004 Bonneville for $1,635.

The proceeds will go to the county, minus auction fees, 10% for the state of Minnesota, and 20% for the prosecutor’s office.

The board also approved three-year law enforcement contracts for the cities of Lake Benton and Hendricks.

Meester said previous contracts had been for five years for Lake Benton and two-and-a-half years for Hendricks. He suggested three years would allow the city councils to reconsider and revise the terms of their contracts within a more convenient time frame for successive council elections.
