Garoppolo ‘may not start’ against Packers
Marshall's Trey Lance may have to step in as QB against Packers
Jason McIntyre of Fox Sports 1 tweeted Tuesday that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo’s injuries may prevent him from starting in Saturday’s divisional playoff matchup with the Packers at Lambeau Field. McIntyre’s Tweet stated Garoppolo “may not start.”
The Associated Press reports Garoppolo is dealing with injuries to his right thumb and right shoulder. Garoppolo was limited at practice Tuesday for the 49ers (11-7). He played through the thumb injury the past two weeks after missing one game, and hurt his shoulder in the first half of last week’s 23-17 playoff win over Dallas.
”
It’s playoff football,” Garoppolo said. “We know what time it is. No time to rest right now.”
The Niners will have rookie QB Trey Lance ready if Garoppolo has any setbacks. Lance started two games this season when Garoppolo was hurt, including a Week 17 win over Houston.
Lance is a 2018 Marshall High School graduate and started 17 games at North Dakota State.
In April, Marshall residents watched as a hometown athlete became one of the NFL’s top draft picks. Marshall Tiger alumnus Trey Lance was picked third overall in the NFL draft, with the San Francisco 49ers choosing him as quarterback.
