Garvin park to close for spring turkey hunt

GARVIN — Garvin Park will be temporarily closing next month to allow hunters access for the annual spring turkey hunting season. Lyon County is asking the public to follow hunting and closure rules to help protect everyone’s safety.

The park will be open for turkey hunting from half an hour before sunrise until noon during the Minnesota DNR’s turkey hunting season A and B. Seasons A and B run from April 14 through April 27. During that time, the park will be closed to all other activities. No hunting will be allowed after noon at the park.

Archery hunting for turkeys will also be open at Garvin Park during the DNR’s hunting seasons C, D, and E, which run from April 28 through May 18. During archery season, recreational activities will also be allowed at the park.

All turkey hunters must obtain a Lyon County permit, along with their valid Minnesota DNR hunting license. Permits can be obtained from Lyon County parks staff at the Lyon County Public Works building in Marshall, either from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, or by calling to make an appointment.

The county requires that you bring your DNR license, a photo I.D. and the license plate numbers for the vehicle or vehicles you will be driving to Garvin Park.
