No new virus cases at Morningside Heights, Avera says

MARSHALL — There have been no new cases of COVID-19 among residents at the Avera Marshall Morningside Heights Care Center, an Avera Marshall spokesperson said Thursday.

One of the 11 residents who had tested positive for COVID-19 was being moved from an isolated care unit back to their regular room, said Stacy Neubeck, Avera Marshall communications coordinator.

Late last week, Avera Marshall confirmed that nine residents at Morningside Heights had tested positive for COVID-19, and were being cared for in a separate unit isolated from other residents. By Monday, the number of residents who tested positive had risen to 11.

Neubeck said Morningside Heights has a plan in place for caring for COVID-positive patients, which includes planning for when a resident would be able to move back to their regular room. Staff had also been taking steps to protect residents since the start of the pandemic, including ending group activities, using personal protective equipment and screening residents and staff.

Neubeck said Morningside Heights has also been communicating with residents and their families. If a resident tested positive for COVID-19, their primary family contact was notified by phone, she said. She said Morningside Heights also communicates with residents and their families through regular e-mails and letters, and sometimes through virtual town-hall style meetings.
