A ‘great day’ for sales

With safety precautions in place, the Marshall girls hockey craft and vendor show at the Red Baron Arena draws a crowd

MARSHALL — Mask wearing, social distancing and one-way walking traffic still resulted in sales at the Marshall girls hockey craft and vendor show Saturday inside the Red Baron Arena, according to vendors.

“Honestly we had a great day. We are probably having one of our best days,” Erin Schreader said. She was selling her Boutique on the Farm items with co-owner Dawn Sandbulte.

“We are amazed how well it’s going. I think people are just excited to go to an event like this,” Schreader said.

More than 600 people walked through the arena doors between when the show opened at 9 a.m. and noon, according to an event worker who was counting people through the doors.

A steady group of adults and children were crowding around the Sweet Kettle Madness display of a variety of candy and fudge. Jaimie Warner of Revere said her company was also selling popcorn outside the arena. She reported a steady group of people at both of their locations at the show.

“Everybody is complying very well with mask wearing and social distancing. So that hasn’t been an issue,” Warner said.

While the pandemic has presented challenges for her company, Warner said they are getting creative to sell their products.

“We do a lot of fundraisers for churches and schools and we do some wholesale at gas stations. We keep busy. We are at apple orchards, some wineries,” she said. “Yes, has it (pandemic) affected the amount of places we go to in sales? It has, but we are trying to get creative. Come up with other ways to make up for that.”
