‘Periodic chances’ of thunderstorms throughout the week

MARSHALL — Radar estimates for rainfall over southwestern Minnesota this weekend show that it received about two to four inches of rain with Ghent and Green Valley receiving the most, according to Jen Hacker, a meteorologist for the U.S. National Weather Service Sioux Falls, S.D.

“The airport in Marshall confirmed 1.88 inches,” she said.

Additional thunderstorms were forecast for Monday. “Some of these storms may be strong to severe with damaging winds the primary threat,” according to the U.S. National Weather Service Sioux Falls, S.D.

“In addition to the severe threat, the storms will pose a threat of heavy rainfall, with localized amounts in excess of 2 inches possible.”

Today’s forecast as far as rain is “mostly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of a thunderstorm,” said Hacker. “There are periodic chances of thunderstorms throughout the week, but it’s uncertain so far.”
