Marshall Schools to give update on building project

MARSHALL — This spring, Marshall voters approved a referendum to build a new elementary school and building updates at other Marshall schools. But passing the vote was just the first part of the work, school district staff say.

Members of the public will have a chance to learn about the building projects’ status on Monday. A progress update will be part of the Marshall School Board’s regular meeting, which is open to the public. After the meeting, school board members will also be available for a question-and-answer session.

“The process that we have used since the referendum passed in May involves collaboration and input from stakeholders, said Dion Caron, director of business services for Marshall Public Schools. “This referendum project meeting and update will give our parents, residents and community leaders a chance to stay updated on what’s happening with referendum-related projects and share in the excitement of these projects.”

The school board meeting starts at 4 p.m. Monday in the professional development room at Marshall Middle School. The question-and-answer session will begin at 5:15.

“Anybody that has questions is more than welcome,” Caron said.

Speakers at Monday’s meeting will include representatives of the architectural firm and construction consultants working on the MPS building projects. School administrators and school board members will also be part of the discussion.

School district staff said the meeting will share some of the details of the planning process being used for a new elementary school, expansion of the early childhood program at Park Side Elementary, and updating safety and security measures at Marshall schools. Information on everything from traffic and parking discussions to a timeline of major events will be presented, district staff said.

Caron said community members will still have opportunities to hear the construction update even if they can’t attend the meeting next week. Studio 1 TV will broadcast the meeting live online and on local access cable. The presentation will also be available to watch on the Marshall Public Schools website and the Studio 1 website after the meeting, Caron said.
