Marshall man pleads guilty in sex sting

MARSHALL —  A Marshall man who was charged in connection with a prostitution sting last fall has pleaded guilty to charges of hiring a minor for prostitution. Lyon County court records said a sentencing hearing will be held in March for Todd Mykle Roberts.

Roberts, 46, was one of three men arrested in Marshall in October as part of an undercover operation conducted by Marshall Police, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, the Brown/Lyon/Redwood/ Renville Drug and Human Trafficking Task Force, and the East Metro Human Trafficking Task Force. Criminal complaints said each of the men responded to an online advertisement posted by an undercover agent posing as a 15-year-old girl. Complaints alleged each of the three men offered money for sex acts, and arranged to meet the undercover agent at locations in Marshall, including a public park.

A plea hearing for Roberts was held Tuesday morning in Lyon County District Court. Roberts pleaded guilty to charges of hiring or agreeing to hire a minor for prostitution. Court records said a pre-sentencing investigation was ordered for Roberts, as well as a psychosexual evaluation. A sentencing hearing was set for March 26.

George Everett Scott Croucher, 29, of Sioux Falls, also appeared in Lyon County District Court this week, on charges of hiring or agreeing to hire a minor for prostitution. A hearing was held Monday, and a judge took the case under advisement, court records said.

The third person charged in connection with the prostitution sting, 55-year-old David Kent Onken, of Hadley, last appeared in court on Dec. 4. A plea hearing for Onken is scheduled for Feb. 12, court records said.
