Three charged in connection with Marshall drug search

MARSHALL — Three people were charged in Lyon County District Court this week, after a search by area law enforcement found drugs in a Marshall apartment.

On Tuesday, the Brown-Lyon-Redwood-Renville Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at a Marshall address, with assistance from the CEE-VI Drug Task Force, Marshall Police and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office. The CEE-VI task force conducts drug investigations in Chippewa, Kandiyohi, Meeker, Swift and Yellow Medicine Counties.

According to a news release from the BLRR Drug Task Force, law enforcement officers found drugs including methamphetamine, controlled substance medications, about two ounces of heroin, and about one pound of marijuana. The search also found items of drug paraphernalia, the Drug Task Force said.

The task force said three people — Demetrius Moos, 29, Marvellia Jones, 23, and Kathie Jones, 49 — were arrested in connection with the search.

Lyon County District Court records said all three people appeared in court earlier this week. Three separate criminal complaints alleged each possessed drugs in an apartment on Village Drive in Marshall, at the time of the drug task force’s search. Kathie Jones and Marvellia Jones each made their first appearance in court on Wednesday.

Kathie Jones was charged with fifth degree controlled substance crime and possession of drug paraphernalia. A criminal complaint alleged Jones possessed marijuana and drug paraphernalia. A future hearing date was set for Dec. 31, and bond for Jones was set at $10,000 without conditions, or $3,000 bond or $300 cash with conditions including appear in court and be subject to random chemical use assessments.

Marvellia Jones was also charged with fifth degree controlled substance crime and possession of drug paraphernalia. A criminal complaint alleged Jones possessed marijuana and drug paraphernalia. A future hearing date was set for Dec. 31, and bond for Jones was set at $10,000 without conditions, or $3,000 cash or bond with conditions including appear in court and be subject to random chemical use assessments.

On Wednesday, public defenders for Kathie Jones and Marvellia Jones each filed motions to dismiss the charges against them.

Demetrius Moos made his first appearance in court on Thursday, court documents said. Moos was charged with two counts of first degree controlled substance crime, one count of third degree controlled substance crime, three counts of fifth degree controlled substance crime and ineligible possession of ammunition. A criminal complaint alleges Moos possessed heroin, methamphetamine, and different controlled substance medications at the apartment.

A hearing for Moos was set for Dec. 31. Bail was set at $50,000 without conditions, or $20,000 with conditions including appear in court and be subject to random chemical use assessments.
