Semis involved in three different crashes Monday

Three different injury crashes — all involving semi trucks — were reported in the region on Monday, the Minnesota State Patrol said. Crashes were reported in Yellow Medicine County, Lyon County and Redwood County.

A crash on Minnesota Highway 67 in Echo Township, Yellow Medicine County, was reported at 4:22 a.m. Monday, the State Patrol said. A 2001 semi truck and trailer driven by Ronald Olson, 76, of Canby, was traveling eastbound on Yellow Medicine County Road 46 at the time of the crash. The truck was traveling too fast to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of County Road 46 and Highway 67, the State Patrol said. Olson lost control, and the truck entered the north ditch and rolled.

Olson was transported to Avera Marshall Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries, the State Patrol said. The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office and North Memorial Ambulance responded at the crash scene.

Another semi truck rollover was reported on Minnesota Highway 19 east of Marshall, at 2:32 p.m. The State Patrol said a 2005 semi driven by Larry Halvorson, 60, of Redwood Falls, was traveling eastbound at the time of the crash. Halvorson lost control and rolled into the south ditch, the State Patrol said.

Halvorson was transported to Avera Marshall with non life-threatening injuries, the State Patrol said. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Department, Marshall Fire Department and North Memorial Ambulance all responded at the crash scene.

A third crash, this one involving two International semi trucks, was reported on U.S. Highway 14 in Lamberton Township, Redwood Falls, at 5:44 p.m. Both trucks were eastbound on Highway 14 at the time of the crash, the State Patrol said. A semi driven by Thomas Halter, 56, of Lamberton, was making a right turn when it was rear-ended by a semi driven by David Vandewiele, 75, of Tracy, the State Patrol said.

Vandewiele was transported to Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, with non life-threatening injuries, the State Patrol said. The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office, Lamberton Fire and Ambulance responded at the scene of the crash.
