Dryer led to fire call at MHS, MFD says
Call was fire department’s third in 3 days
MARSHALL — The Marshall Fire Department has so far responded to three different building fire calls in as many days. However, the call Wednesday morning at Marshall High School turned out to be much less serious than the fires that damaged a Main Street business and destroyed a house south of town.
The fire call at the high school was reported around 9:15 a.m. Marshall Fire Chief Quentin Brunsvold said there were mechanical issues with a clothes dryer near the school’s kitchen area, which created some smoke in the building. There wasn’t any further damage to the school.
Brunsvold said the state fire marshal was in Marshall investigating the fires at 238 West Main Street and 2767 Lochland Hills Drive. Monday’s fire on Main Street caused a lot of damage to the Perfect Styles salon, and other businesses in the same building have been forced to temporarily close or move. On Tuesday morning, a fire also destroyed a residence on Lochland Hills Drive. One occupant was at home at the time of the fire, but was able to escape to a neighbor’s home.
Brunsvold said the fire marshal declared the cause of the Lochland Hills Drive fire to be undetermined. As of Wednesday, the fire on Main Street was still under investigation.
Brunsvold said there wasn’t a clear reason why there’s been so much fire activity this week. When the weather turns cold, it can lead to increased fire risks from things like space heaters — but that wasn’t the cause of the fires reported this week, he said.
