A weekend of music is planned for the Brau Brothers Hopfest

MARSHALL — Brau Brothers Brewery of Marshall is promising a hopping good time at Hopfest 2018 this weekend.

The event will include beer, food, music, games, bouncy house and the local beer enthusiast club, S.M.A.S.H., owners say, as well as several Minnesota bands.

Beginning this evening, the fun and games include beer, food and music on their property at 1010 E. Southview Drive.

Christopher David Hanson Band (CDHB) will perform from 6-8:30 p.m.

“Strong rhythms, great hooks, and catchy tunes pretty much sum up this Northern Minnesota group,” according to the band’s web page. “The Christopher David Hanson Band is known for shows that bring out the dancers, fellow musicians, and story song lovers.”

The first inceptions of CDHB started back in 2008 out of Minneapolis and reformed again on the Iron Range of Northern Minnesota in 2013, the site said. The lineup has changed over time, but the music and showmanship have remained strong.

The band has a long list of notable accomplishments including five songs placed in motion pictures and many opening slots with some of the nation’s top groups.

Then Hitchville will take the stage from 9 p.m.- midnight. The band’s claim to fame is its lead vocalists Heidi Owens and Matthew Kneefe, the group’s harmonies, personalities, and kinetic stage energy, which are the hallmark of their live show. The group’s sophomore album, “Soundtrack to Life,” includes the iHeartRadio No. 1 singles “Even When It’s Bad, It’s Good and “Love is the Road.”

On Saturday, the fun begins again at noon. LASKA will be performing from noon-2:30 p.m. LASKA is from Eau Claire, Wis., and “provides the soundtrack for embracing the beauty in pain,” said a website commenter. Songwriting sisters Hannah Mae, Bex and Mookie blend influences of Alternative, Americana and Desert Rock with raw emotion in their songs.

From 3-5:30 p.m., area singer and guitarist Jake Moravetz will play covers and originals. Moravetz will be followed by The Heavy Set, from 6-8:30 p.m. The Heavy Set, a Minnesota rock band, is rooted in blues and alt-country. Finishing up the day is Stunning Flaws, which will perform from 9 p.m.-midnight. The Minneapolis-based Stunning Flaws bills itself as a “fun, energetic cover band playing popular, upbeat, dance-able tunes ranging from R&B to rock to pop to rap.”

There will also be a bean bag tournament beginning with registration at noon and competition starting at 1 p.m.

A beer dunk tank will be available from 2-5 p.m. Seven different personalities will take their chances on the dunk tank, Brau Brothers employees said, including a mystery guest.

“The event is pet-friendly, kid-friendly and friend-friendly,” said owner Dustin Brau. “And, it’s free admission.”
