‘Farmer of the Year’ to screen at SMSU

MARSHALL — The movie, “Farmer of the Year,” which was filmed in part in Marshall, will make its area debut Saturday evening at the Southwest Minnesota State University Fine Arts Theatre.

Yellow House Films director and story author/script writer Kathy Swanson, formerly of Tyler, is excited about the opportunity to bring their film back to its roots.

“It’s finally happening!” she said recently. “We are screening the film in Marshall Saturday, July 14 at 7 p.m. at the SMSU Fine Arts Theatre. Tickets are $10 online and at the door.

“Folks can come and pick out local — and not local — people and places they know and enjoy ‘a good story’ to boot,” Swanson said. “That’s what people have been saying about the film.”

She and her husband, film producer Vince O’Connell will be doing a three-theater circuit this weekend through Brookings, Marshall and Pipestone, she said.

The couple are looking forward to sharing their work with Marshall area residents and talking about their filming experience.
