Filings for public offices released

Several different public offices will be up for election in Lyon and surrounding counties this fall. The filing period for candidates for county offices closed Tuesday. According to candidate information posted on the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website, the following people are running for office in Lyon County and other area counties:

Lyon County

One candidate has joined the race for a Lyon County commissioner seat, the Secretary of State’s Office said. On Tuesday, Al Kruse, of Marshall, filed to run for commissioner in Commissioner District 2. He will be running against current Commissioner Steve Ritter.

In Lyon County Commissioner District 3, Commissioner Paul Graupmann is running unopposed for re-election.

The Lyon County race that drew the most candidates was the one for Lyon County Sheriff. A total of four candidates, including Steven Louwagie, Jim Marshall, Tony Rolling and Eric Wallen, filed for sheriff. Current Lyon County Sheriff Mark Mather has said he plans to retire at the end of his term this year.

Lyon County Attorney Rick Maes is running for re-election this year. He is running unopposed.

Races for Lyon County Soil and Water Supervisor in Districts 2 and 4 didn’t draw many candidates. Allen Deutz filed for re-election in District 2, and there were no candidates who filed in District 4.

Lincoln County

Seats in Lincoln County Commissioner Districts 2 and 4 will be up for election this fall. Commissioner Mic VanDeVere is running unopposed for re-election in District 2. Commissioner Joe Drietz is running unopposed for re-election in District 4.

Several county offices are also up for election. Deb Vierhuf is running unopposed for County Auditor/Treasurer. Michelle Facile is running for County Recorder. Glen Petersen is running unopposed for County Attorney.

There are three candidates in the running for Lincoln County Sheriff. Sheriff Chad Meester is running for re-election. Nathan Nafziger and John Spindler are also running for sheriff.

Soil and Water Supervisor seats in Districts 1, 3, and 4 are up for election this year. Daniel Christianson is running in Supervisor District 1. Glen Sorensen is running in Supervisor District 3. Conrad Schardin is running in Supervisor District 4.

Murray County

Seats in Murray County Commissioner Districts 3 and 4 will be up for election this fall, and both races have drawn multiple candidates. In District 3, Tim Gass, Roger Lindmeier, Sarah Rylaarsdam, and Dennis Welgraven are all running for commissioner. In District 4, Commissioner Glenn “Corky” Kluis is running for re-election, and challengers Jim Kluis, Aarron Mollema, Wayne Mollema and Patricia Pagel have also filed for commissioner.

There are also several candidates in the running for Murray County Sheriff. Sheriff Steve Telkamp has filed for re-election, and candidates Randy Donahue, Paul Kenney, and Jeremy Steinle are also running for sheriff.

Other county offices up for election include Auditor/Treasurer, Recorder, and County Attorney. Auditor/Treasurer Heidi Winter is running unopposed for re-election. Recorder Evelyn Larson is running unopposed for re-election. County Attorney Travis Smith is running unopposed for re-election.

Soil and Water Supervisor seats in Districts 1 and 2 are up for election this year. Paul Posthuma is running in Supervisor District 1. Gary Brinks is running in Supervisor District 2.

Redwood County

Seats in Redwood County Commissioner Districts 2 and 3 will be up for election this fall. Commissioner Jim Salfer is running unopposed for re-election in District 2. Commissioner Dennis Groebner is running unopposed for re-eleciton in District 3.

Several county officials are running for re-election. County Auditor/Treasurer Jean Price is running unopposed for re-election. County Recorder Joyce Anderson is running unopposed for re-election. Sheriff Randy Hanson is running unopposed for re-election. County Attorney Jenna Peterson is running unopposed for re-election.

Soil and Water Supervisor seats in Districts 1 and 5 are up for election this year. Jeff Potter and Patrick Schoffman are running in Supervisor District 1. Edward Carter is running in Supervisor District 2.

Yellow Medicine County

Seats in Yellow Medicine County Commissioner Districts 1 and 2 are up for election this year. In District 1, Commissioner Greg Renneke is running for re-election, and challenger Jane Remiger has also filed to run. In District 2, Commissioner John Berends is running unopposed for re-election.

Sheriff Bill Flaten and County Attorney Keith Helgeson are both running unopposed for re-election.

Soil and Water Supervisor seats in Districts 3 and 4 are up for election this year. Hollis Weber is running in Supervisor District 3. Darwyn Bach is running in Supervisor District 4.
