MN State Patrol releases names of drivers injured in Friday’s crash

LYON COUNTY — The Minnesota State Patrol has released the names of the two people injured in a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 59 on Friday morning. The State Patrol also reported that alcohol was involved in the crash.

The State Patrol said Elias Kipkosgei, 25, of Marshall, received non life-threatening injuries in the crash and was taken to Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center. Colten Lawson, 21, of Tyler was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale with life-threatening injuries.

The crash was reported at 7:35 a.m. Friday, on U.S. Highway 59 near Garvin Park. According to the State Patrol, Lawson was driving a 2000 Buick Century southbound on Highway 59, and veered into oncoming traffic, striking a 2016 Hyundai Sonata driven by Kipkosgei.

Alcohol was involved in the crash, and Lawson was also not wearing a seat belt, a State Patrol crash update said.

In addition to the State Patrol, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department, North Memorial Ambulance and North Memorial Air Care, Tracy Ambulance, and the Garvin, Tracy, Balaton and Marshall fire departments all responded at the scene of the crash.
