SMSU coach to speak at Everyday Leader

MARSHALL — Southwest Minnesota State University men’s basketball coach Brad Bigler will be one of the speakers during this year’s Everyday Leader Speaker Series that will be Friday inside the theater at Marshall High School.

Everyday Leader promotes itself as a forum for unlocking leadership thinking and abilities. It will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. You can register for the event online or at the Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce. Bigler will be joined by David Horsager and Willow Sweeney.

Horsager is the CEO of Trust Edge Leadership Institute, national bestselling author of “The Trust Edge,” inventor of the Enterprise Trust Index, and director of one of the nation’s foremost trust studies: The Trust Outlook. His work has been featured in prominent publications such as Fast Company, Forbes, The Huffington Post and The Wall Street Journal. David has advised leaders and delivered life-changing presentations on six continents, with audiences ranging everywhere from FedEx, Toyota and global governments to the New York Yankees and the Department of Homeland Security.

Sweeney is the co-founder of the Top 20 Training that provides training and materials to empower leaders, teachers, parents, and students to develop their potential. She and her Top 20 team have trained over 500,000 people throughout the United States. Her work focuses on helping others further develop their potential, through social and emotional skills and develop more effective workplace teams and cultures.

Bigler is the 11th head coach in program history, and he is no stranger to Southwest Minnesota State men’s basketball and its success the past 20 years. Since joining the program as a student-athlete in 1997-98, SMSU has finished in the top half of the conference standings in 16 of the last 20 seasons, including four conference championships and two NCAA region titles.

The Bigler family was thrown into the spotlight in July of 2012 when their vehicle was hit by a drunk driver. Their family’s story has helped changed laws in Minnesota and Iowa. They have worked with Mothers Against Drunk Driving and Against Zero Deaths to impact people of all ages on the awareness of drinking and driving.
