Boulder Estates to host health and wellness fair

MARSHALL — In honor of Older Americans Month, Boulder Estates staff and tenants are hosting a health and wellness fair May 2 to provide resources for aging citizens.

From 2-3:30 p.m., nearly 40 health and wellness related vendors will set up display tables and provide information to attendees regarding their respective areas of expertise in the Summit Dining Room at 601 Village Drive, Marshall.

The event is free and open to the public as a service to senior citizens, their families, health care providers and care providers.

“The goal is to connect seniors with local activities and resources that can help enrich their lives,” said Jan Mason, director of tenant services. The theme is ‘Engaging at any age.’ That’s what we’re trying to help them do.

“We have chiropractors and hospitals coming,” she said. “Hy-Vee’s dietician will be here. Representatives from Senior GOLD College, and the yoga instructor, too.”

Mary Kay consultants will be there to show how to care for aging skin, Mason said.

Other groups include Senior Linkage Line, Prairie Home Hospice, MAFAC and two grief groups.

“The Marshall Police Department will be here to talk about telephone scams,” Mason said. “Immunizations will be available. The Veterans Service Officer will be here.”

Adult day cares, transportation options and the Lyon County Museum, among others, will also be there.

The tenants are also busy working on a few other activities in May.

On May 19, they will host their senior prom, and elegant affair were they dress up for promenading, dining and dancing.

On May 23, Bernie Wing will be the keynote speaker for the Boulder Estate Memorial Day program.

“The tenants are also working on a paving stone to add to the memorial garden,” Mason said. “And every month, we take and ‘Armchair Adventure,’ where they learn about a different country.”

“May is Mexico,” Mason said.
