Dahms to hold town hall meeting with YMC board

GRANITE FALLS — State Sen. Gary Dahms, R-Redwood Falls, will be at the Yellow Medicine County Board meeting Tuesday to hold a town hall-type meeting.

The senator is making the rounds to cities and counties to hold question-and-answer sessions regarding the government’s progress and can address questions about current Minnesota legislation.

“The format is for open discussion,” said YMC Human Resources Coordinator Ashley Soine. “Peg (Heglund, YMC Administrator) has a couple highlighted points that she will be giving the board chair to discuss.”

Also on the YMC Board’s schedule will be to proclaim Jan. 21-27 as School Choice Week in YMC, as it is nationwide.

School choice is about empowering parents and helping children achieve their dreams.

YMC has two public schools — Canby Public Schools in Canby and Yellow Medicine East in Granite Falls, two public charter schools — ECHO and Clarkfield Area Charter School, an Area Learning Center and a few homeschooled students. YMC also has one parochial school, School of St. Peter in Canby.

Also pending on the YMC Board agenda include appointments and approvals: Two commissioners to temporarily serve on the Personnel Committee for the purpose of participating in the interview process for the finance manager potion, a vacant position on the Yellow Medicine River Watershed board and approval of hiring Shyanne Soderstrom and Amanda Johnson as Social Workers and their salaries and start dates.
