Second person involved in 59/23 crash dies

MARSHALL — A second person involved in a multi-vehicle crash in Marshall last week has died, Marshall Police records confirmed Thursday. However, police said they could not confirm whether that person died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Warren Amos Saetre was one of the people involved in the crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and Minnesota Highway 23 on Sept. 20, said Ben Rieke of the Marshall Police Department. A funeral notice published Wednesday said Saetre, 94, died Sept. 26, at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. But Rieke said he could not confirm whether Saetre died as a result of the crash. The crash is under investigation, Rieke said.

Police service call records said Saetre and his wife Marjorie Sorenson were both passengers in one of the vehicles involved in the crash. Sorenson, 94, died Sept. 21, as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

A total of four vehicles were involved in the crash, and five people were injured and taken to Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center by ambulance.

A report was sent to the Marshall city attorney’s office for consideration of criminal charges in connection with the crash. However, no charges have yet been filed in Lyon County District Court.
