Beth Moore simulcast leaves an impression, attendees say

MARSHALL — Nearly 200 women flocked to Living Word Lutheran Church in Marshall to hear Christian speaker and author Beth Moore talked about being Captivated — the Wonder of Christ on the Winding Road Saturday because they believe her to be a great speaker.

Bonnie Hagberg of Marshall said that Moore is a superb speaker.

“She expressed her love of Jesus so well,” Hagberg said. “She knows him and trusts him.”

“It was amazing,” Becky Siekmann of Marshall said. “It was wonderful! I feel very blessed and loved, that God is my Father.”

Others were impressed by Moore’s knowledge of the Scriptures in general and her use of humor to relay her message.

Still others enjoyed the fellowship of their sisters in faith and looked on in wonder as they perceived that the Holy Spirit was working in them.

They all took away hope from Moore’s message, which was based on Colossians 2:9-14.

Moore said that, in love, people will be bearing fruit (of the spirit), growing in knowledge of God, being strengthened when we quit struggling and start giving thanks.

She also spoke to five points of her message:

1. We’re sojourners in a land of woundings and wonders.

2. Woundings pale in the wakefulness of his wonder.

3. God has an affinity for mysteries.

4. Our security in the mystery and knowing God’s mystery revealed — “I gotta know Jesus; you gotta know who’s got you.”

5. “You are a wonder, woman” or “You are a wonder woman.” This statement works with or without the comma, Moore said.

“No mystery fascinates unbelievers more than the believer’s joy,” she said.

One of the greatest mysteries is that God knows the real us, deep down, and he loves us anyway, she said.

Moore was not in Marshall Saturday, but her live Living Proof event was televised to all 50 states, 17 countries and two military bases. Moore was actually in Toledo, Ohio, for the simulcast, but she said there were 480 churches, including Living Word Lutheran Church, tuned in Saturday to hear her message.

Coming from Houston, Moore knows the heartbreak of the people there who were hit by Hurricane Harvey, but said this is the best time for her to speak — when she, herself, is raw with emotion.
