Taking a trolley ride

Senior citizens in Marshall got a special horse-drawn trolley ride around town on Tuesday, courtesy of Rainbow Country Trolley from the St. James area. Owner Gerry Buse sang to the residents of Avera Morningside Heights Care Center while his pair of Belgian horses pulled the load of about 14,000 pounds. Buse said 25-year-old Buttercup weighed about 1,900 pounds, while her daughter, Butter Biscuit, was 16 years old and weighed 2,300 pounds. “I’ve raised them since birth,” Buse said. Despite taking quite a bit of time to load — the majority of the residents are wheelchair bound — the residents were in good spirits and wore big smiles as the ride began. Earlier in the day, Buse and his wife, Pat, gave trolley rides to the residents of Boulder Estates and Hill Street Place.
