George Henry Noyes was born on Dec. 12, 1923, in Grandview Township to Camiel and Mary (Dobbeleare) Noyes. He was raised on a farm near Ghent Minnesota and attended country school though 8th grade.
On April 8, 1947, he was united in marriage to Dolores Downing. They were married 70 years and raised four children on their farm: Edward, Donald, Marcel and Mariane. George was a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather. He was an active member of St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent until they moved from the farm to Marshall, thereafter he was an active member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
George and Dolores farmed on land near Ghent from 1946 until they moved to Marshall in 1983. George was a proud farmer, one who loved the land that he had and the livestock they produced. Over the years they raised thousands of feeder cattle as well as a number of hogs and chickens. He was very pleased to know some of his feeder cattle were shipped overseas to areas of growth. After moving to Marshall and renting the land he also operated a metal salvage business for 20 years where he enjoyed going to auctions to purchase scrap metal, machinery, and vehicles. He would take the time to separate the metals before taking the material to a recycle yard.
George was very proud of his years in the Navy, he joined the Navy in June 1942 where he served on the USS Porterfield as a Petty Officer 2nd Class during WWII.
George enjoyed hard work and was not known to let something sit for tomorrow if it could be done today. George enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, polka dancing, rolle bolle, and traveling around the United States in their camper with good friends. George and Dolores moved to Brainerd in 2015 due to health reasons and their daughter, Mariane, provided care for George in her home for the past year. Many thanks for the tremendous care provided by the doctors, nurses and caregivers at Good Samaritan – Bethany.
George is lovingly remembered by his wife, Dolores; children, Edward Noyes, Donald (Sharon) Noyes, Marcel (Dianna) Noyes and Mariane Marthaler; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
George was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Remi, Harry and Mike; sisters, Emma and Martha; and great-granddaughter, Mara.
May he rest in peace.
