PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Strong defense leads Marshall to 53-40 win over Arrows

PIPESTONE – The Marshall girls basketball team defeated Pipestone Area 53-40 on Friday.

Jordyn Hilgemann led the way for the Tigers with 22 points while Lenei Estrada added eight and Emily Meier had six. Paige Andries led in rebounds with eight while Estrada led in assists with four.

Marshall (8-3) will face Mankato East today at 1:30 p.m.

WABASSO – The Wabasso girls basketball team defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 66-39 on Friday.

Jenna Frank led the way for the Rabbits with 17 points while Maddy Guetter and McKenna Nelson each added 13 and Alison Fenger had seven. Guetter led in rebounds with 12 while Megan Rothmeier led in assists with four. Guetter also led in steals with nine.

Wabasso will face Sleepy Eye on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

Kiana Imes led the way for the Lakers with 13 points while Savanna Louwagie added 11 and Aubrey Kaczmarek added eight. Sierra Plotz led in rebounds with 11 while Imes led in steals with seven.

Lakeview (7-4) will face Renville County West on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

WWG (3-7) will face Yellow Medicine East this afternoon in Marshall. Opening tip from the R/A Facility is set for 2 p.m.

WINTHROP — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop edged Wabasso 62-60 in overtime on Friday.

It was the sixth consecutive loss of the season for Wabasso, while GFW snapped a three-game skid with the win.

Brock Rohlik led Wabasso with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Isaac Kronback added 13 points in the game while Mason Dallenbach scored 10 points.

Wabasso (2-10) hosts Sleepy Eye on Monday.

CANBY — Canby defeated Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley 60-37 on Friday.

Twelve players scored in the game for the Lancers.

Riley Kockelman led the way for Canby with 16 points and seven rebounds.

Ethan Thovson added eight points in the win, while Will Varcoe recorded 10 points, seven rebounds and five steals.

Canby (4-8) travels to Wheaton/Herman-Norcross on Tuesday.

HENDRICKS — Estelline/Hendricks defeated Marshall 138.65-131.5 on Friday.

Saphi McFarquhar earned first place in all-around with a total score of 35.8. She took first on the balance beam with a 9.45 and second in the floor exercise at 9.05, adding a third-place score of 8.4 on the uneven bars and taking fourth on the vault with a score of 8.9.

Mikayla Chesley placed fourth on the balance beam with a score of 8.7, while Cameen McFarquhar added a second-place score of 8.5 in the floor exercise along with scoring 8.25 on the balance beam.

Despite the loss, Marshall coach Larvita McFarquhar was proud of her team.

“All around, I think this was our best score in a long time,” she said. “Every meet we’re improving, and I’m very proud of the girls.

Marshall travels to Windom/Mountain Lake on Thursday.
