PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Area teams compete at Camden championships

COTTONWOOD — It was a clean sweep for Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd, as both its boys and girls teams won Camden Conference championships on Tuesday.

LQPV/DB won the girls title with a team score of 28 points. Isabel Schirm was the first runner to finish for the Eagles, placing second with a time of 20:51.50. Grace Hegland added a third-place time of 21:12.90, while Anika Fernholz finished with a time of 21:20.60 for fourth place. Taylor Shelstad placed ninth at 22:09.40, while Alex Stitt added an 11th-place time of 22:38.70.

The Eagles took it a step further in the boys race, recording a perfect score of 15 points by recording the five fastest times of the race.

Mike Kvaal won the race with a time of 17:14.30, followed quickly by teammate Zeke Sather who finished at 17:22.60. Eean Allpress added a third-place finish at 17:41.60, while Mason Brehmer (17:49.40) and Griffin Johnson (17:50.50) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

Canby/Minneota

Both Canby/Minneota teams placed second at the Camden Conference Championships on Tuesday. The girls finished with 30 points — just two points behind champion LQPV/DB — while the boys had a team score of 63 points.

Grace Drietz recorded the fastest time in the girls race, crossing the finish line at 19:07.10 — nearly two minutes faster than the next runner to finish. Braelyn Merritt placed fifth with a time of 21:22.60, followed by McKenzie Ruether (21:24.00) and Faith Traen (21:35.40) in sixth and seventh place, respectively. Aidyn Bruns added a 12th-place time of 22:45.30 to complete the C/M girls team score.

Jared Josephson (18:06.60) and Jalyn Ufkin (18:07.50) paced the Canby/Minneota boys by finishing in eighth and ninth place, respectively. Blake Stoks took 12th with a time of 18:41.50. Alex Full finished 15th at 19:01.20, while Sean Dilley finished the race at 19:41.50 for 19th place.

Lakeview

The Lakeview boys finished with a team score of 103 points for third place. Ben Louwagie led the Lakers with a 13th-place time of 18:43.10. Ethan Schwankl (19:36.60) and Noah Schmidt (19:38.40) placed 16th and 17th, respectively. Cole Arends added a time of 21:24.40 for 29th place, while Andrew Loe placed 30th at 21:25.90.

With only two runners in the girls race, Lakeview did not register a team score. Sadie Vlaminck finished the race 15th with a time of 23:24.70, while Faith Louwagie added a time of 26:39.00 for 32nd place.

TMB

The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys placed eighth with a team score of 173. Fritz Landherr (20:16.90) and Sawyer Schwartz (20:22.90) finished 23rd and 24th, respectively, to lead the Panthers. Gabe Struchen placed 32nd at 21:44.40. John Schmitt added a 48th-place time of 24:37.20, while Gage Struchen finished at 25:49.40 for 50th place.

TMB only had four girls runners participate on Tuesday, which is not enough to register a team score. Annaka Hook placed 13th at 22:47.20, followed by Makala Lemberg at 25:32.40 in 24th place. Anje Sutjer (27:27.60) and Caitlyn Devereaux (27:52.30) finished in 34th and 35th, respectively.

YME

The Yellow Medicine East boys finished with a team score of 159 for sixth place.

Rory Shackelford led the YME boys with a sixth-place time of 17:55.00. Tate Schulte added a time of 20:33.20 for 25th place. Caleb Jans placed 42nd at 23:10.00, followed by Drake Lieser (23:17.60) and Luke Kluver (24:16.20) in 45th and 47th place, respectively.

The YME girls placed fourth out of five qualified teams with 103 points. Kylie Knollenberg paced the Sting runners by placing 14th at 23:23.40. Sanjana Pullen added a 21st-place time of 24:27.60, while Kenzie Kotek (25:46.40) and Courtney Winter (25:52.50) placed 27th and 28th, respectively. Violet Anderson finished in 31st at 26:22.30.
