YOUTH HOCKEY: MAHA teams participate in several games last weekend
MARSHALL – It was a busy weekend for the Marshall Area Hockey Association with several teams participating in tournaments and jamborees as well as individual games.
The Mini Mites and Mites participated in the Luverne Blazing Blades Jamboree, facing teams from Luverne, Brandon (S.D.), Sioux Center (Iowa) and Redwood.
The Squirt A team co-hosted its home tournament, going 1-3, ending the tournament with a 3-2 win over Brookings (S.D.) in the seventh place game on Sunday. Ricky Crum, Jack Johnson and Owen Renslow recorded goals in the win.
On Friday, Squirt A fell to Hutchinson 3-1 with the lone goal scored by Scot Lane. Squirt A fell to Blaine (13-0) and Redwood Area (7-0). Nathan Lenz was in net over the weekend, stopping a total of 59 shots.
In the B bracket of their home tournament, the Squirt B team went 1-3 with a 7-2 win over Brookings Blue on Sunday. Austin Husby led the way, scoring a hat trick in the win. Justin Dwire, Max England, Austin Quist and Salem Frost each added a goal in the victory.
On Friday, Squirt B fell to Brookings Red 6-0 before falling to Sioux Falls (S.D.) 9-0 and Sauk Rapids 13-0 on Saturday. Carson Becker finished the weekend with 91 saves.
Pee Wee A
Pee Wee A came away from Redwood with a 6-0 win over Redwood Area on Saturday.
Lincoln Mellenthin posted a 10-save shutout in the win while Talan Plante recorded a hat trick to lead goal scorers. Sam Schwarz, Corbin Beernaert and Jared Reinsma came away with goals while Joey Fossum chipped in an assist.
Pee Wee B
The Pee Wee B team participated in the Worthington Tournament, going 2-1 with wins over Sioux City (Iowa) and Brookings.
On Saturday, Pee Wee B started with a 5-2 win over Sioux City. Sam Poff, Clayton Weller, Gavin Peterson, Graham Johnson and Maxx Schultz each came away with a goal. Later in the day, Luke Ehlers scored the lone goal in a 4-1 loss to Des Moines (Iowa). Pee Wee B bounced back on Sunday with a 5-3 win over Brookings. Schultz led the way with a pair of goals while Isaac Gross, Camdyn Frederes and Ehlers each chipped in a goal in the win.
The 12U Girls team bookended their 2-2 weekend with a pair of shutout wins in the Detroit Lakes Touranment, starting with a 4-0 win over Bismarck (N.D.) on Friday and finishing with a 6-0 win over Roseville on Sunday.
On Saturday, the team fell 8-2 to Moorhead and went to the wire with St. Paul, falling 3-2 in a shootout.
The Bantam B squad fell to New Ulm/Sleepy Eye 4-1 in Sleepy Eye on Saturday.
