SMSU WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Mustangs to take on pair of NSIC North foes; “Hawaiian Night” scheduled for Saturday

MARSHALL – Southwest Minnesota State women’s basketball gets set to begin the home stretch of the 2017-18 regular season facing a pair of NSIC North opponents beginning with Minot State on Friday night at 6 p.m., followed by Saturday’s Hawaiian Night game against U-Mary at 5 p.m.

– SMSU gets set to host a pair of NSIC opponents this weekend including its annual “Hawaiian Night” on Saturday.

– Caleigh Rodning currently ranks in the NSIC’s top-10 in rebounding (total, offensive and defensive), free throw percentage, and ranks 12th in scoring.

– Minot State extended their winning streak to five games with a weekend sweep over Winona State (76-50) and Upper Iowa (85-57) last weekend.

– The five-game winning streak in NSIC play is the longest winning streak for Minot State in conference play since joining the NSIC.

– Minot State improved to 9-1 when scoring 70 or more points this season, including 3-0 when scoring 80 or more points.

– The Beavers tallied a 91-53 advantage in rebounding last weekend.

– Holly Johnson averaged 15.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and two steals in two games while posting a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds vs. Winona State.

– Marauders claimed their second straight home sweep with 73-38 win over Upper Iowa and 81-64 win over Winona State.

– U-Mary has won four straight home games and won 5 of 6 games overall.

– The Marauders came out of halftime and dominated the third quarter against both UIU and WSU by a combined 39-16.

– Gabbie Bohl averaged 22.5 ppg and 8.0 rpg last weekend.

– Cassie Askvig posted a pair of double doubles last weekend with 22 points and 11 rebounds against the Peacocks.

– Askvig added 10 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three blocks against Winona State.

– U-Mary leads the all-time series, 11-3.
