SMSU VOLLEYBALL: Mustangs stay at No. 4 in AVCA Top-25

LEXINGTON, Ky.- Southwest Minnesota State remains as the No. 4 ranked team in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II women’s volleyball rankings that was released on Monday.

SMSU (25-3), following a 2-0 weekend to close out the regular season, will open postseason play on Wednesday when it hosts Upper Iowa at 6 p.m., as the No. 2 seed in the NSIC Tournament.

The top four teams in this week’s poll remain the same from last week as No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul clinched the NSIC Championship for the regular-season with a 2-0 weekend.

No. 6 Minnesota Duluth jumped up three spots from last week’s poll while No. 7 Northern State remains in the same spot as last week. No. 15 Winona State also remains in the same ranking as last week while Augustana drops two spots from last week to No. 18.

No. 22 Wayne State is the seventh and final NSIC school in this week’s AVCA Top-25 after Upper Iowa, which received 63 adjusted points, dropped out of the No. 25 ranking.

The Mustangs have now been ranked in the Top-25 for 159 consecutive polls, dating back to Sept. 5, 2006, and have made it into the Top-10 for 63 consecutive polls. SMSU has also been ranked in the AVCA Top-5 in the previous 26 polls dating back to last year’s preseason poll.

The winner of the 2017 NSIC Volleyball Tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Central Regional Tournament. The full championship selections will be announced on Monday, Nov. 20 via a webcast selection show on at 6:30 p.m.

The regional tournament will be played Nov. 30-Dec. 2 at a regional campus. The 2017 NCAA DII Volleyball Championships will be hosted by the University of West Florida at the UWF Field House in Pensacola, Florida on Dec. 7-9.
