SMSU VOLLEYBALL: Four Mustangs named to AVCA All-Region team

LEXINGTON, Ky.- The accolades continue to pile up for the second-ranked Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team as the American Volleyball Coaches’ Association (AVCA) has named Taylor Reiss the Central Region Player of the Year while Reiss along with Brooke Borchardt, Megan Larson and Kaylee Burmeister were each named to the AVCA All-Region teams.

Reiss, Borchardt, and Larson were each named first team All-Region while Kaylee Burmeister was named to the central region’s honorable mention list.

Taylor Reiss, a native of Tauton, set an SMSU record and an NSIC Tournament record with 41 kills on Saturday, Nov. 18 against Augustana in the Mustangs’ semifinal round win over the Vikings. Reiss has six matches with at least 20 kills and 20 digs this season with 20 or more kills in 12 matches. Reiss currently ranks second in SMSU history in kills per set (4.66) and surpassed her 2016 mark for fourth most kills in a single season with 578 entering the NCAA Central Region tournament.

Larson, also a native of Minneota is the active NCAA leader in career assists (5,512) and the SMSU leader in career assists and career assists per set (11.34). Larson had a season-high 65 assists in the Mustangs’ five set win against Augustana in the NSIC semifinal.

Borchardt, a native of Zimmerman has the fourth highest attack percentage for a single season (.372) in SMSU history and ranked fourth in the NSIC in conference matches with a .385 hitting percentage.

Burmeister, a native of Lakefield, is second on the team with 358 kills (3.20 k/set) and leads the Mustangs with 364 (.3.25 d/set). She had 22 kills and 20 digs in the Mustangs’ NSIC semifinal win over Augustana and has 14 double-double performances on the season.
