PREP HOCKEY: Marshall girls hockey earns first win of the season in shutout over Morris/Benson Area, 8-0

MARSHALL – The Marshall girls hockey team wrapped up their Thanksgiving Tournament with its first win of the season, as the Tigers shut out Morris/Benson Area 8-0 on Saturday.

Marshall got out of the gates quickly, when Courtney Mauch scored just 54 seconds into the game to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Rachel VanKeulen then made it 2-0 with 9:54 left in the opening period, a lead that would hold throughout the rest of the frame.

In the second period, VanKeulen found the back of the net for the second time on the assist by Kaitlyn Timm before Izabella Hunsley scored her first varsity goal to extend the lead to 4-0.

Sydney Mauch then made it 5-0 with 4:33 left in the second, which the Tigers took into the third period.

Courtney Mauch would find her second goal of the day midway through the third before she found the net again, this time on a power play off the assist from VanKeulen and Logan Sherman, for the hat trick. Maddy Penske then scored late in the third to bring it to 8-0.

Marshall (1-3) will face Worthington at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.


Fargo Davies 8, Marshall 0

MARSHALL – The Marshall boys hockey team fell in the championship game of their Thanksgiving Tournament, dropping to Fargo Davies 8-0.

The Eagles broke out the offense right away, scoring seven goals in the first period en route to the victory. Fargo Davies outshot the Tigers 44-10. Dominik Caspers made 22 saves while Ryley Serreyn made 14 in goal for Marshall.

The Tigers (1-1) will face Worthington at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
