COTTONWOOD – The fall sports season officially came to a close for the Lakeview Lakers on Oct. 27, when the volleyball team lost to Canby, 3-1 in the second round of the section tournament. The football team’s season came to an end when they lost to BOLD in the opening round of the section tournament.

A year after making their first trip to the state tournament in program history the Lakers fell flat in 2017. The Lakers finished the regular season with an 0-8 record and were shutout in the opening round of the section tournament against BOLD.

That’s the bad news. The good news is the Lakers will return a host of players that gained valuable experience during the trying season.

Aaron Loe will return under center for the Lakers. As a sophomore Loe 1,293 yards and nine touchdowns.

As a sophomore Parker Hoffman finished second on the team with 27 receptions for 375 yards.

As a junior Elijah Sterner finished second on the team with 95 tackles. Sterner led the team with 14 tackles for loss.

The Lakers will lose eight seniors, including their leading receiver, Isaac Kesteloot. The Lakers will also lose their leading tackler, Austin Kosen.

The volleyball team finished the season with an even 14-14 record. They won one playoff game before losing to the Canby Lancers, 3-1.

The Lakers will say goodbye to five seniors, including their leading hitter, Stephanie Pickthorn. The team’s setter, Haley Unke will also be graduating. Leah Brusven, Baylee Larsen and Dawson Gnifke round out the senior class.

Sierra Plotz and LeeAnn Stensrud will be two key returning players for head coach Hailey Osland in 2018.
