SMSU VOLLEYBALL: SMSU volleyball back on top to No. 1 in latest AVCA Top-25 poll
MARSHALL – Southwest Minnesota State moved back into the top spot in the latest American Volleyball Coaches’ Association (AVCA) Top-25 poll that was released on Monday.
SMSU (20-1, 12-1 NSIC) garnered a total of 30 first place votes and 1,170 adjusted points after going 2-0 on the road this past weekend while previous No. 1, Lewis (Ill.) suffered its second loss of the year against Bellarmine.
SMSU held the No. 1 ranking in four consecutive polls earlier this season.
Concordia-St. Paul (19-2, 12-1) moves up into the No. 2 ranking after also going 2-0 last weekend.
Minnesota Duluth also moved up one spot to No. 4 in this week’s rankings as each of the nation’s top five teams moved up one spot from a week ago.
No. 9 Northern State moved back into the top-10 this week after wins over Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston this past weekend making a total of four Northern Sun teams in the top-10 of this week’s poll.
No. 15 Augustana improved one spot in this week’s poll despite losing to No. 2 Concordia-St. Paul this past weekend. No. 17 Winona State moved down two places after losing to SMSU and Sioux Falls over the weekend.
Southwest Minnesota State will host its annual “Red Out” match this Friday night as they face Minnesota State Mankato at 6 p.m.
