MARSHALL – The Marshall High School volleyball team took on the Windom High School Eagles Thursday night at Marshall High School. The Tigers came out with the win after four sets, 21-25, 25-13, 26-24, 25-23.

The first set of the game started off with the points going back and forth from the Tigers and the Eagles. Marshall found an opportunity to pull ahead at 8-6, not holding that lead for the long, as Windom came from behind and tied up the score at 10-10. They gradually pulled ahead to win the first set, 25-21.

The Eagles started the second set with a quick 2-0 lead over Marshall. The Tigers fought back and caught Windom and kept points going back and forth. Marshall found themselves with a bigger lead, 15-8 and held the Eagles at 13 to win the second set, 25-13.

Windom pulled another early lead on the Tigers, 5-2 and held a lead for a majority of the third set until Marshall came from behind and tied up the score, 14-14. The Tigers and the Eagles both with strong offense and defense kept the points going back and forth once again. Marshall held their own and pulled ahead to a 20-19 lead. Windom fought hard and tied up the score, 24-24. The last two points were made by the Tigers, winning the set in 26-24.

After a big win in set three from Marshall, the fourth set started off with a small early lead from the Tigers, 7-5. The Eagles and the Tigers found themselves tied later on in the set at 23-23. Marshall held nothing back from Windom and finished off the night with a 25-23 win over the Eagles.

Head coach Dan Westby was proud of the way the Tigers played Thursday. “It took us a while to get it going, we didn’t have a lot of rhythm in the first set. We found it about 10 points into set two,” Westby said. “The third set was really fought hard from both teams, and with the fourth set we had a nice lead in the beginning and made a few errors but put enough pressure on them in the end to come out with a nice win. Our kids played better as the game went on and this game is a good team win to have.”

Mia Schnaible led the Tigers in digs tonight with 20, not far behind her were teammates Maddie Marks and Rachel Schwarz with 13 each. Schwarz was also the leader in tonights game in assists with 23.

Marshall will travel to New Ulm Monday to play in one of their last regular season games of the year. Westby gave credit to both teams tonight, but moving forward into their next game against New Ulm, Westby has a lot of high hopes for the Tigers after a big win against the Eagles tonight.

“We’re getting to the end of the season and we need to have a good push before the tournaments roll around and it all starts on Monday against New Ulm,” Westby said.
