PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall volleyball rolls by New Ulm

NEW ULM – The Marshall volleyball team defeated New Ulm 3-0 on Monday, winning by scores of 25-6, 25-9 and 25-16.

Erica Jones led the way for the Tigers with nine kills while Whitney Schwartz added eight and Paige Andries had six. Jones led in digs with four while Logan Sherman led in set assists with 29.

Marshall (17-4) will continue to play on the road as they head to face Worthington on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m.

TRACY – The second ranked Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers swept the visiting Pipestone Area Arrows on Monday.

It was all TMB in the opening set with the Panthers cruising to a 25-7 victory. The second set was all TMB once again with the Panthers winning, 25-13. The Panthers won a thrilling third set, 25-23 to complete the sweep.

Sydney Lanoue led TMB with 20 kills. The senior also recorded 15 digs. Kaylee Kirk led the Panthers with four aces and 25 digs. Cassidy Smith recorded 34 assists. Evelyn Dolan recorded 10 kills and three blocks.

With the win the Panthers improved to 19-3. They’ll look to make it six straight wins tonight when they continue their homestand with a matchup against MACCRAY in Tracy.

HANCOCK – The Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks swept the Hancock Owls, winning by scores of, 25-22, 25-23, 25-20. With the win the Blackjacks improved 6-13.

Avery Bartunek and Mary Bothun both recorded 12 kills to lead the Blackjacks. Bartunek and Bothun also both recorded three aces.

Karoline Dahl finished with seven kills. Lydia Aafedt finished with 32 assists. Amelia Olson led the team with 12 digs.

Benson Invite

BENSON – The Lakeview Lakers and Yellow Medicine East cross country teams competed in the Benson Cross Country Invitational on Monday.

The Lakeview boys placed sixth overall, while the YME boys finished eighth. The YME girls also placed eighth.

On the boys side Rory Shackelford placed in the top 10 with a sixth place finish for the Sting. Shackelford finished with a time of 17:56.30.

Lakeview’s Selim Gilon also finished in the top 10 with a ninth place finish. Gilon ran a 18:06.80.

The YME girls had three runners place in the top 40. Violet Anderson finished 32nd with a time of 24:53.80. Cassie Weir finished right behind Anderson in 33rd with a time of 25:02.30. Brylea Ruff-Mulligan placed 39th with a time of 25:42.10.
