SMSU CROSS COUNTRY: SMSU cross country to run today at Roy Griak Invitational

MARSHALL – The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s and men’s cross country teams compete this Saturday at the 32nd annual Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota. The race takes place at the University of Minnesota Les Bolstad Golf Course located in St. Paul.

The women’s 6,000-meter race begins at 9:50 a.m., while the men’s 8,000-meter race will start at 11:30 a.m. This will be the fourth time SMSU has competed in the race in program history. Last season the SMSU women’s team placed 29th out of 40 teams while the men’s team finished 34th out of 40 teams.

SMSU last competed at the Dakota State Invite on Sept. 9. The men’s team captured first place with a score of 24 points while the women’s team placed second in the four-team meet.

SMSU’s Bashir Aidrus finished second overall in the men’s 8K race with a time of 27:09.

The SMSU women’s team was led by Kayla Jansky, who placed fifth overall, with a time of 19:56 in 5K race.

Following this weekend’s race, SMSU will compete at the St. Cloud State Invite on Friday, Oct. 6.
