SMSU CROSS COUNTRY: Mustang cross country squads complete busy day at Roy Griak Invite

FALCON HEIGHTS – The Southwest Minnesota State women’s and men’s cross country teams returned to action on Saturday competing at the 32nd annual Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota at Les Bolstad Golf Course.

The SMSU women’s team placed 32nd out of 41 teams in the Maroon Division II race with 985 points while the men’s team finished 37th out of 41 teams in the Maroon Division II race with 1,082 points.

Emily Daniels led SMSU in the 6k race placing 182nd with a time of 26:31, while teammate Abby Schotter was 184th crossing the finish line with a time of 26:34. Emily Gillingham was 204th with a time of 26:54 followed by Kristen Weber in 205th recording a time of 26:57.

Simon Fraser won the women’s team title with 73 points, two points ahead of Pittsburg State (75) and 26 points ahead of the University of Mary. Alexis Zeis from U-Mary won the individual title with a time of 21:41.

Logan Knutson ran the 8K race in a time of 29:27 to finish in 189th place to pace the Mustang men’s team. Ben Broze and Clayton Hartle both crossed the line at 29:39 to place 204th and 205th.

Mason Phillips from the University of Sioux Falls was the men’s individual winner with a time of 25:30. Augustana won the team title with a score of 43 points.

Both Southwest Minnesota State teams will return to action on Friday, Oct. 6, competing at the St. Cloud State Invite.
