PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall boys soccer uses second half to beat New Ulm, 3-1
NEW ULM – The Marshall boys soccer team used three second-half goals to beat New Ulm 3-1 on Tuesday night.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Tigers got a goal from Nick Kayser with 30 minutes left to tie the game at 1-1 before Marshall took the lead with a pair of goals from Chase VanDeVere and Loving Stee with just a couple of minutes left.
The Tigers had 16 shots on goal compared to just nine from New Ulm. Marshall goalie Tristan VanDeVere had eight saves in net.
Marshall (7-1) will face Southwest Minnesota Christian on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
Wabasso 3, BLHS 0
HECTOR – The Wabasso volleyball team defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector 3-0 on Tuesday, winning by scores of 25-11, 25-15 and 25-18.
Maddy Guetter led the way in kills with 22 while Gina Goblirsch had seven. McKenna Nelson led in digs with eight while Megan Rothmeier and Goblirsch each had seven. Jenna Frank led in set assists with 28 while Ally Welch led in blocks with three.
Wabasso (8-1) will face Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

Kelsey DeSmith and Talitha Horkey led in kills for the Chargers with three apiece while Emma Wahl led in digs with 10 and Grace Woelber had seven. Woelber led in set assists with nine.
WWG (6-3) will face Adrian on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

GRANITE FALLS – Yellow Medicine East made quick work of the Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks with a straight set victory on Tuesday.
The Sting set the tone for the match with a 25-13 opening set victory. The Sting took the second set 25-16. In the third set the Sting won in convincing fashion, 25-7.
With the win the Sting snapped five-match losing streak to move their record to 2-6 overall. They’ll be back in action on Thursday against Canby.
The loss drops Dawson-Boyd to 3-6 overall. They’ll be back in action Thursday against MACCRAY.

At No. 1 singles, YME’s Anne Clarke defeated MACCRAY’s Missy Marcus 6-2, 6-0 while YME’s Whitney Tennis defeated Kendra Hammerschmidt 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Chelsea Hoernemann of YME defeated Allison Shubert 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. YME’s Emily Johnson defeated Katie Burdorf 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 4 slot.
At No. 1 doubles, YME’s Chelsey Niemeyer and Macie Sik defeated Jade Bedel and Leah Johnson 6-0, 6-0 while YME’s Hannah Lecy and Emilee Speh defeated Grace Haugen and Katelyn Handt 6-0, 2-6, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles and YME’s Ashley Niemeyer and Cherish Hammer defeated Haley Rhode and McKayla Hopp 6-2, 6-4.
YME will face Minnewaska Area on Thursday.
