COTTONWOOD – Last year, the Lakeview volleyball team took a little longer than they wanted to get their first win of the season. The Lakers went winless in their opening month of 2016, and second-year head coach Hailey Osland doesn’t want a repeat happening this fall.

“It took us about a month to get our first win, which was a little frustrating as a first-year head coach, so hopefully we can get a win right away,” Osland said. “I think the girls have been working hard and they’re going to give everything they have.”

The Lakers went 7-18 overall last year, but have many players returning to the roster from a season ago. Lakeview will have about 10 players back, including six seniors. Key returning players for the Lakers include Alexis Lienemann, Sidney Geistfeld, Stephanie Pickthorn and Sierra Plotz.

Osland said Lienemann and Geistfeld will be among the players to watch this season, and that she’s excited to see what her young team has worked on over the offseason.

“Lexi is our libero, so she’s going to be another key element and Sidney is another defensive specialist in the back row and is someone who I don’t think will be stopped back there very easily,” Osland said. “And then I’ve got returning starting middles who are still young and a starting setter, so I think everyone is going to help out the team. The kids have worked hard all summer, so I’m excited to see the payout this season.”
