COTTONWOOD – The Cottonwood amateur baseball team fell victim to a pair of home runs as Dumont used a couple of multi-run innings to cruise to a 9-1 victory Saturday afternoon at Lakeview High School.

Dumont jumped out to a quick 3-0 advantage thanks to an early home run. They then added another pair of runs in the top half of the second and one additional run in the third to push their lead to 6-0.

Cottonwood scored its only run in the bottom of the fourth inning after Seth Boerboom smacked a double to lead off the inning, advanced to third and later came home on a stolen base to cut the deficit to 6-1.

After a pair of scoreless innings, Dumont struck for three more runs in the top of the seventh, getting another homer in the frame for their second of the game.

The Cardinals had a chance to cut into the deficit in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn’t capitalize with runners on first and third.

Wyatt Schuster took the loss on the hill for the Cardinals, going 6.1 innings while allowing 12 hits and nine runs while striking out one.

Brad Boerboom and Seth Boerboom each led the way with a pair of hits, with Seth picking up the lone run for Cottonwood.
