GOLF

BUFFALO LAKE – A total of five teams advanced on Thursday to Day 2 of the Section 3AA meet. With a team score of 329, the Marshall boys golf team was the fifth and final team to make the cut.

A pair of sophomores led the way for the Tigers, as Mason Plante led the team with a 78 and Spencer Ehlers was right behind him at 79.

“Both boys had decent rounds, all in all, today,” Marshall boys golf coach Kari Ehlers said. “Mason had some bogeys early on that were tough to get over. Once he was about five holes into the round he was able to settle in and play some good golf. Spencer’s first nine holes were a challenge in that he had one double and one triple bogey. He hit a shot out of bounds and had to work the rest of his round to get a couple shots back.”

Addison Clarin added an 84 for the Tigers, while Brenden Archbold ended the day at 88.

Coach Ehlers believes the freshman Clarin is close to taking the next step.

“Addison is so close to breaking into the 70s,” she said. “I truly believe that he can do that on Tuesday after a couple days of practicing his short game.”

Landon Frost carded a 90 and Ethan VanHauwaert a 97 to round out the team scores on Thursday.

The entire team will return to Oakdale Golf Club on Tuesday to compete for a berth in the Class AA Tournament.
