SMSU WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: SMSU’s Rodning named to NSIC All-Freshman team

BURNSVILLE – The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference announced today that Southwest Minnesota State University freshman forward, Caleigh Rodning, has been named to the NSIC All-Freshman team for the 2016-17 women’s basketball season.

Rodning, a native of Shakopee, Minn., finished the year ranked ninth in the NSIC in scoring with 15.0 ppg and fourth in the NSIC in rebounding with 8.3 rpg during conference play. As a true freshman, Rodning led the Mustangs in points per game (13.7) and was second on the team in rebounds per game (7.8).

Rodning had a 43.9 field goal percentage on the season and concluded the regular season with a stretch of eight consecutive double-doubles. During that eight game stretch, she averaged 18.0 ppg and 11.4 rpg while shooting 46 percent from the field and 82 percent from the charity stripe.

Rodning finished the 2016-17 season with 10 total double-doubles and reached double digits in scoring 18 times. She also led the Mustangs’ in scoring 13 times during her freshman campaign.

Southwest Minnesota State had its season come to end following its NSIC Tournament first round loss at No.11 MSU Moorhead on Wednesday night.
