PREP WRESTLING: 14 area wrestlers punch their ticket to state at section tournament in Redwood

REDWOOD Falls – The second day of the 3AA individual section tournament saw 14 local wrestlers punch their ticket to the state tournament. Out of those 14 wrestlers, six of them took home first place in their respective weight classes.

United had the most first place finishers, with three. Peyton Mortenson (152), Cole Bungarden (220) and Mason (Hutt) all took home gold.

Toby Semler (145) and Hsa La Eh (113) both won their respective championship matches for the Marshall Tigers. Semler will wrestle Garrett Aldrich, out of Albert Lea in the first round of the state tournament. La Eh will grapple with Charlie Pickell from Mankato East in the opening round of the state tournament.

Wabasso/Red Rock Central had the most state qualifiers, with six. Devan Liebl (195) won his championship match by sudden victory (4-2) over Worthington’s Brandon Kempema. Liebl will wrestle Bloomington’s, Erick Lopez in the opening round of the state tournament.

The Bobcats had five wrestlers lose in the championship match of their respective weight classes. Joining Liebl at the state tournament will be; Tyson Doubler (138), Jared Schroepfer (145), Nick Altermatt (170), Mitchell Fulton (182) and Jared Welch (285).

Danny Blankenship is the lone state qualifier for Fulda/Murray County Central. Blankenship lost to La Eh in the championship match in the 113-weight class.

Quad County will send Miles Kattevold to the state tournament. Kattevold lost the championship match in the 160-weight class.

Derek Ellingson is the lone state qualifier for Tracy-Milroy-Balaton-Westbrook-Walnut Grove. Ellingson lost the championship match in the 120-weight class.

Mason Irlbeck placed fourth for WRRC. Ayden Horner placed fifth for TMBWWG.

120-weight class

Trevon Johnson placed fourth for United. Noah Jensen placed sixth for Marshall.

126-weight class

Jordan Odegard placed fourth for Quad County. Lucas Hodges placed sixth for Marshall.

132-weight class

Dylan Dulas placed third for Marshall. Tori Rupp placexd sixth for Quad County.

138-weight class

Anthony Axford placed third for TMBWWG. Zach Stahl placed fifth for Marshall.

145-weight class

Cole Hatch placed fifth for Quad County.

152-weight class

Cody Dudgeon placed fourth for WRRC. Trevor Eisfeld placed sixth for TMBWWG.

160-weight class

Nash Mayer placed third for TMBWWG. Cole Werner placed fourth for WRRC. Jackson Hughes placed fifth for Marshall.

170-weight class

Jace Paplow placed fourth for TMBWWG. Colton Stuxness placed fifth for United.

182-weight class

Austin Schmitt placed third for United. Zack Felcyn placed fourth. Tyler Timm placed fifth for TMBWWG.

195-weight class

Wyatt Martin placed third for Marshall. Austin Friese placed fourth. Quintin Lehmann placed fifth for United. Austin Bucholz placed sixth for TMBWWG.

225-weight class

Jaiden Bahr placed third for Marshall.

285-weight class

Ethan Beckler placed third for Quad County.
